Entierro #3

December 16, 2015 by Wrinkle Neck Mules

The 3rd installment of our ongoing Entierro song series is now available for $1 download at Bandcamp.   The song is our version of “Mazelle” originally performed by Gary Stewart who died on December 16, 2003.    Each song from Entierro is a cover released on the anniversary of an artist’s death.

Gary Stewart is badly overlooked by country music history.   His warbly and raw singing is unmistakable and some of his biggest hits like “She’s Acting Single (I’m Drinking Doubles)”, “Single Again” and “10 Years of This” are absolute classics.   When Gary sang about cheating, hard partying and demons, he wasn’t just posturing.  It was real and autobiographical.   If you don’t know much about Gary or want some insight, go read this little piece that Jimmy McDonough wrote after Stewart’s suicide.

“Mazelle” is not one of Stewart’s biggest songs but it’s one we thought deserved a reworking from its original arrangement.   Check it out here.
