Many of the keen eared WNM faithful have been asking, so here’s the answer: Yes. That is indeed Wrinkle Neck Mules you hear in the new Geico “Texas” commercial. It’s been running seemingly non-stop since the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The song is one of our new ones called “Central Daylight Time”. The song will most certainly be on our upcoming record due out in February 2012 but we are working to release it as a single as soon as we can. Stay tuned.
Our thanks to the folks at Geico and our hometown super agency, The Martin Agency, for getting the gecko to show off his dance moves to the WNM.
If you haven’t seen it…..

Hey Mules, would love to see y’all in Columbus, OH
-
Great song. Not a country fan per se, but I had to look up the lyrics and hear the whole song. I’ll post it if I can.
-
So glad I searched the lyrics and found you guys – so much heart, so much humor. My 12 year old daughter says, “how can they make depressing lyrics sound so optimistic?” Exactly.
We need you to come to Boston. House of Blues? Toby Keith’s “I Love This Bar”? at Patriot Place? Your talent and authenticity would crush Boston. Come on down!
-
I’m not a big country music fan (exception is the old timers like Johnny cash) but that song is really catchy! Good luck with it! Thanks for making it a free download as well. Kudos!
-
To WNM; just went on iTunes & download a few of your tunes, think you guys are GREAT!!!! Also got the free download of Central daylight time, also a great tune, and are you guys touring (dumb question) and when or how close do you get to the Pittsburgh Pa. area, would love to hear you guys live!!
-
is it me or does this band sound like Marshall Tucker band?
-
I can’t wait for this cd to come out. I really love this song!!!! I am a Wrinkle Neck Mules fan. I hope you guys come to Salem, OR. I would love to see you guys live. I bought all your cds and I love the music. I hope you guys have a huge success!!! Good luck guys!!!!
-
I meant to say that I am a new fan of you guys.
-
-
Doug Brunell here. Author of “Nothing Men” and writer of many things, including music journalist. I am not a huge country fan, but that song is incredible. Great job. Great job.
-
Incredible sound…you have a new fan in Texas.
-
This is the only commercial that when it comes on I turn the volume UP. Awesome song! Can’t wait for the album.
-
Love the song! I dont really get what “If I could separate what’s real from what I been dreamin’ I could live to fight another day” means…. Someone help an ol country boy out? Andy?
-
Man, I have never heard of you guys until I heard this song on the Geico commercial. I took it upon myself to search for the only lyrics i could hear during the short add. “If i could seperate what`s real”, which led me to youube where I gladly found the song. I`d say there is no need now to advertise your selves, the word is out it looks like..
-
I love this song !!!!!!! Rick From Long Island NY !
-
“If I could separate what’s real from what I’ve been dreamin I could live to fight another day
If I listen to my mom she said don’t be believ’in everything they write or say (them writers say?)
There’s no line at the door and only 20 people bothered to advance pay
If I could separate what’s real from what I’ve been dreamin I could live to fight another day”
Took me a while but I think I figured it out! Now that’s how you write a country song well done boys!-
i think it is
——
if i listened to my mom who said don’t be believing everything them riders say
——-…like a performer’s rider agreement for a performance
-
-
I’ll admit, grudgingly, that the Geico commercial introduced me to you gents. How you ever stayed off my radar is beyond me. This song and Cadillac Limo are now my two favorite songs. Loving the Mules…now publish some lyrics so I can quit singing along with mumbles and made up words!
-
Great to have the WNM at In Your Ear Studios and of course our friends at GEICO and The Martin Agency. Pretty wild that the GECKO was actually there! You guys sounded superb and Central Daylight Time is a great song. Glad to be a small part of it all.
-
I’ve never listened to country before (wasn’t really my thing), but the Geico commercial got me on this song so hard and good music is good music. I really dig it and I’m psyched to discover new, good music! Wish you guys the best!
-
Love the song, guys. Thanks for giving it to us!
Now how about posting the official lyrics and clearing all this up once and for all?
-
I can’t wait to see you in Kansas City. Just the little bit that we hear on the commercial is great. I can’t wait to hear it all.
-
Awesome song, I usually skip the ads and go browsing to another site when the ads come up. Same this time and the ad was running in the background and as soon as the first few seconds of the song started I had to go back and see the ad and heard the snippet. An immediate google for Geico Texas song and after a few minutes listening to the downloaded song.
This is great of you guys to have done this nice song and better that you gave it away free.
And way to go GEICO for making this happenCheers
-
I love it.
-
Well folks, your favorite underground band is now a mainstream band. Enjoy!
-
Wow…thanks to Geico and the FABULOUS band and song writer for this awesome song. Not a fan of country or folk by any means but this is ONE CATCHY tune. Also helped to have the lil green fella strutting around like he did, that was sooo funny…huge EXPOSURE for sure.
Like I said, thanks for the share…I’ll pass it on for sure :)
PS thanks to all the poster for the lyrics, that makes the song more sense.
-
Mighty proud to be one of those few that bothered to ad-vance pay in the past! Shelly, myself and the rest of the MD crew already have our tickets for Charlottesville! Something tells me the days of 5-30 people are far behind! Not another band I know that deserves it more.
-
Jimbo
You and Shel and the MD crew are, literally, our first fans besides our families. Not too many can recall the days of the Grog and Tankard with Blake wearing a cow suit.
See you in Cville.
-
-
Great song, thanks for the free download. Would love to hear this get some mainstream play on country radio, but I think it’s probably too country for what passes for “country radio”. That’s why we have Sirius/XM channel 60, I guess! Keep it up!
-
Well the roof blew off the club in oklahoma city , fireman said the show cant go on”
So we spent another night somewhere in New Mexico. drinkin’ until all our money was gone.
We had a day to kill so we climbed up a mountain, walked straight down the other side.
Picked up a hitch-hiker on the way back to Taos and said “Thank you boys for the ride”.(chorus)
If I could separate what’s real from what I been dreamin’
I could live to fight another day.
If I’da listened to my mom she said “Don’t be believing’. everything…. them riders say”
There’s no line at the door and only thirty people bothered to ad-vance pay.
If I could separate what’s real from what I been dreamin’
I could live to fight another day.We unpacked everything, and we set it all up to play three songs on a radio show,
but you never can tell if anyone’s listening, and I guess it don’t kill us what we don’t know.
So we play ‘em just the same, and we tell ‘em our name and where to find us on the computer screen.
When we’re packing’ it up I hear Stu on the phone saying’ “Baby, I’m livin’ the dream”(chorus)
If I could separate what’s real from what I been dreamin’
I could live to fight another day.
If I’da listened to my mom she said “Don’t be believing’. everything…. them riders say”
There’s no line at the door and only twenty people bothered to ad-vance pay.
If I could separate what’s real from what I been dreamin’
I could live to fight another day.We gotta sell ten t-shirts and twenty CD’s
to get from Stephenville to Houston town.
Well there’s people there who care a lil’ about me and
you know they won’t let the poor boor boy down
It was five twenty nine, central daylight time when the five of us come strolling’ in
With smiles all around, cause it’s seventy six hours ‘fore we gotta be leaving’ again.chorus)
If I could separate what’s real from what I been dreamin’
I could live to fight another day.
If I’da listened to my dad who said “Don’t be believing’. everything…. them Dutch riders say”
There’s no line at the door and only five people bothered to ad-vance pay.
If I could separate what’s real from what I been dreamin’
I could live to fight another day.-
Muddy.
You pretty much nailed it. Ive been letting this debate play out a little bit for humors sake but I figured I would go ahead and set the record straight. What you have above is about 99.9% correct.
The only correction I will make is that its “writers” not “riders”.
Thanks everybody for all your comments and support.
Andy
-
Thanks for posting the lyrics!
This music should be everywhere — no reason that The Mules should be as “unknown” as they are.
-
-
“We gotta sell 10 t-shirts and 20 CD’s. How can u sell sick days?
-
The line from the commercial is
“if I could separate real from what I feel,
I could live to fight another day”. At least that’s what I heard -
I heard about y’all off that Geico commercial (i guess like a lot of people), I checked out some other of your stuff on spotify
good stuff congrats on getting on the commercial there … hope to catch you live sometime if you ever get out San Diego way.
going to buy some albums also.
nice work boys.
-
Here is my contribution to the lyrics
I think the first line is …
“Well the roof blew off the club in Oklahoma city”Sure would like some background on that part Andy!!!
Best regards,
Ken -
Like everyone else here I just had to post….
Great song! I am a Hard Rock/Metal genre fan at heart but your song got me as soon as I heard the commercial. Well done my friends, hope to see you live soon!
Just so everyone here can get a laugh here is what I though the chorus said…
“If I could separate whats real from fiction, I’d likely sure be down with that”….lol
-
AJ, “Third verse – It sure sounds like you are right, but “26 days” makes more sense than “twenty sick days”. ”
“We gotta sell 10 T-shirts, 20 CDs to get from Stephenville to Houston town”
Makes a bit more sense, don’t you think?
-
Thanks very much for the free download of Central Daylight Time. I heard it on the Geico commercial and started looking for it right away. I’m normally not a country fan, but this song has great hooks and tells a great story. I wish you guys great success!
Also love the hat tip to Chuck Berry’s Promised Land!
-
Brian.
I think you might be the first to catch the Chuck Berry reference. I wrote the song and I dont even think the rest of the band has caught that one yet.
Thanks for your comments.
Andy (of WNM)

-
I hope you guys play near Memphis soon. Love your sound.
-
Great song and thanks for releasing it for free
-
Love the Gecko and Love your tune!!!
-
Guys get a video on youtube ASAP I am not a country fan by any stretch of the imagination… but I had to search for this song on the internet… it’s great, and that little lizard is giving you guys a boost that many people only dream about… good-luck…I bet you would hit a million views on youtube
-
Great tune!!!
It’s a tough struggle in your line of work and you express it well in your song.
Hopefully your patience and persistance of chasing your dream and not quitting has all paid off!!!
What a long, strange trip it’s been, eh?
8^)…remember where you came from and best of luck WNM!!!
Best regards,
Ken-
This tune caught my ear like many others from the Geico commercial; looked you guys up. Am a big fan of this tune and others I found on line. Big things on the horizon.
-
-
Thank you all for the replies to the Gecko commercial song. We are on to it for sure. With all these replies surely we have got it figured out and at least one of them has got to be right.. Hey but if its not one of these then WNM missed a good chance to have those words in their song huh lol.
“If I could separate the knots in my undies well i could wear a different pair tonight”
Maybe thats the lyrics after all lol hehehe. J/K but if it made you laugh or smile then its all good lol. Ok peace out!
MULE RULE # 1 = GOTTA LOVE WRINKLE NECKS
-
Love those lyrics. Have never heard of WNM either but am checking you out now! Great music!!
-
This song has been in my head ever since the commercials, I’m like, what is he saying? I was obsessed! LOL. So I found it and played it over and over until the words became clear. So here it is with the line before the chorus or the hook:
Picked up a hitchhiker on the way back to town she said thank you boys for the ride. CHORUS: “If i could separate whats real from what i’ve been readin i could live to fight another day”. If i had listen to my mama say, dont be believing everythang, them tryin to say”. Theres no line at the door and only 30 people, no bother to advance pay. (REPEAT CHORUS)…..
-
As best as I can figure
Well when we woke up in Oklahoma City, finally said ” the show can’t go on”
So we spent another night somewhere in New Mexico. drinkin’ until all our money was gone.
Had a day to kill so we climbed up a mountain, walked straight down the other side.
Picked up a hitch-hiker on the way back to town she said “Thank you boys for the ride”.(chorus)
If I could separate what’s real from what I been dreamin’
I could live to fight another day.
If I’da listened to my mom she said “Don’t be believing’. everything…. them writers say”
There’s no line at the door and only thirty people bothered to ad-vance pay.
If I could separate what’s real from what I been dreamin’
I could live to fight another day.We had packed everything, and we set it all up to play three songs on a radio show,
but you never can tell if anyone’s listening, and I guess it don’t kill us what we don’t know.
So we play ‘em just the same, and we tell ‘em our name and where to find us on their com-puter screen.

I could live to fight another day.

If I could separate what’s real from what I been dreamin’
I could live to fight another day.We gotta to sell ten t-shirts and twenty sick days
to get from Steevenville (sp) to Houston town.

I could live to fight another day.-
A few corrections:
Line 1 – instead of “woke up” it’s something about a “club”. I can’t make it out perfectly. Also, it’s “fireman said ‘the show can’t go on’”Third verse – It sure sounds like you are right, but “26 days” makes more sense than “twenty sick days”.
Last chorus – now it’s only 5 people who bothered to ad-vance pay
Thanks for figuring it all out and writing it down. (I’m not trying to be an ass, just trying to help a bit.)
-
Picked up a hitch-hiker on the way back to Taos (NM)she said “Thank you boys for the ride”.
I think it is With smiles all around, cause it’s seven ta six hours ‘fore we gotta be leaving’ again.
I’m not trying to be an ass, just trying to help GREAT SONG!!!!
-
First line sounds like: Well the roof blew off the club in Oklahoma City, fireman said “the show can’t go on”
Also, sounds like the hitchhiker was on her way back to Taos (not town)
Otherwise – awesome transcription!
-
“We gotta sell ten t-shirts and twenty CDs. . . .”
-
-
THANKS! Great song !!!!!
-

if i could seperate whats real from what ive been dreamin i can live to fight another day….
i think
-
I know the album is coming out in February and I am ready for it lol. Can someone please just help me out with the lyrics to the Daylight Central Time song that is on the Gecko commercial ? What are the words they are singing at the end of the commercial when the Gecko is dancing? I think its something like this…… “If i could separate whats real from luck i reckon i could pick a better love tonight” or something like that…. Its driving me crazy trying to understand what they are singing in that part. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you ARE SURE of the words please post them ok. Thanks fellow fans. WNM rules!
-
if i could separate what’s real from what i’m dreaming i could live to fight another day
-
I believe the lyrics go, If I could separate whats real from what I been dreamin I think I can make it through another day.
-
Yeah please just let us hear that small part that is on the commercial ok. It is hard to understand what your singing and if its being done that way intentionally so we that cannot understand the words as a tactic to get us to continue to watch the commercial so we will try to figure it out, well, thats sorta lame because we all are hooked on WNM anyway and Gecko is cool too so please just give us the words lol.
-
sounds like the last part is more like “if i could separate whats real from luck i reckon i could live to fight another day” to me. but im not sure.
-
-
I searched the web as soon as I saw the commercial to get the band that was playing. I had never heard of WNM and now I already have 3 of their CDs since last week. And I’ll be getting the next one in Feb.
How did you manage to get such good publicity by getting on a Geico commercial? Give your agent kudos :-)
Good stuff, guys. Come to Minnesota.
-
I’m here because of the commercial, too!!! You boys play and sang purty good!
-
Ran across some of your music on Youtube and I must say, I like your sound. It was interesting to see you also do the Geico commercial. Good luck to you guys and I will be downloading and passing the info about WNM to all of my friends. Best wishes and Happy Holidays.
-
“no later than Wednesday…”
-
I knew it!!! I knew it!!! but I didn’t recognize the song, so It took a couple commercials to convince myself it was yall.
-
First of all let me say, I have a new favorite band! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this song! Y’all needa hit it big time! I would love to hear it on the radio too! Its perfect!
-
Thanks everyone for your comments and concern for our career. Trust us, we really want to get the song out to you as soon as we can. Although it might a appear to be “not that difficut”, there is is a lot that goes into these types of things beyond what might be apparent.
The truth is, there were a number of technical things that needed to happen with the song and a few business issues that had to be hashed out before we could just throw it out there on itunes or elsewhere.
The good news is, we will soon be giving the song away for FREE download on Geico.com. If all goes well, this should happen no later than Wednesday of this week. We will provide an update and link on this site.
Cheers everybody.
-
Well its wensday were is it at.
-
Good grief. Chill out. The man said if all goes well it’d be Wednesday.
Try not to be so ungrateful about a free song. If they said it’ll be available soon, try to exercise some patience and be thankful they’re GIVING you something that so many people are willing to pay for.
Done.
-
Ditto that, Aaron — there’s a great Louis CK bit he did on Conan about people’s impatience and whining about stuff they feel entitled to that didn’t even exist 10 minutes prior, it’s on Youtube – “Everything’s Amazing & Nobody’s Happy”, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk
Very relevant to some of these comments lol…
-
-
You boys need to gone put that out
-
Guys…GET THIS SINGLE OUT!!! I cannot wait to discover the full version of CDT and all the rest!!
-
i agree!!! great song…… why cant we buy it? This is a very big gamble for your band. There are many bands who would do ANYTHING for this kind of publicity and exposure. You guys must like playing dive bars. I searched and wasted time trying to find out who sings this song, just to find out it’s unreleased. oh well. if there are any other decent-but-unheard-of bands out there reading this… Take note
-
It’s funny, if the song is not released soon, i will probably never get it. You should put it out there soon. The commercial is the only reason i am at this site……figure it out. its not that difficult.
-
I’m with Kyle. You guys obviously make some great music but you need to fire the people responsible for getting you out there. This is a huge time in your careers, and you miss this wave you may miss a whole avenue of chances. Good luck, and as Kyle says, I hope I’m still interested when this puppy drops.
-
Ditto. Git crackin!
-
-
I too am very excited to hear the full version, took me a few clicks and searches to get this far, but thanks to some of your dedicated fans, I was able to get here. Do us all a favor and release it already, It sounds exactly like something I have been yearning for.
-
Great song to two step to although no one on the commercial knows how to.
-
Catchy tone looking forward to full version!
-
Come on guys ride the wave and get this song released ASAP. Geico commercials change frequently and this it YOUR big opportunity. If your producer can’t move that quick it is time for a switch.
-
Where can I hear the full song I am dying to and can not find it- that short part from the commercial is stuck in my head and I found you guys thanks to it
-
I hope you get that song out there before they stop playing the commercial. I’d bet there are a lot of folks who would like to buy that single. I certainly would like to buy it right now.
Keep up the good work. Those few seconds really grab your attention.
-
Love what I can hear in the commercial and sought you out based on it!
-
Best news I’ve heard in a long time. Please come to Dayton, Columbus or Cincinnati Ohio when you tour!
-
That’s great news! I haven’t seen the commercial yet here in Alaska, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled. So glad to hear the Mules are still making music!!
-
Xmas just came a little early!!!!!!! Hells yeah!

It’s about time to see some good ol’ southern boys from VA makin it big!!! Awesome music fellas keep it up!!
